GM proves big business isn’t antithetical to environmental protection: industry can be part of the solution. The auto company set a 2020 goal to achieve 100 landfill-free manufacturing sites and 50 landfill-free non-manufacturing ones. Four years early, the company has exceeded its goal through recycling, community outreach, and sustainable product design, resulting in a total of 152 zero waste facilities. Among many examples of GM’s green efforts, the company uses recycled water bottles in engine cover insulation and air filters for some of their facilities. They’ve also partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) China to reuse Chevrolet Bolt battery covers as wildlife nest boxes.
